Walter Lobner (born August 12, 1930 in Forst ) is a former major general of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic .

Life and career

Walter Lobner was born into a working-class family in Forst, Spree-Neise district. There he attended school until he graduated from high school, learned the professions of electrical engineer and blacksmith and worked as a farm worker until 1952. As a teenager he joined the FDJ organization and in 1952 became a member of the SED .

Military career

Education and Uses

Walter Lobner occurred on 23 May 1952 as a volunteer applicants to the armed forces of the GDR, and graduated as a cadet a course for officer training at the then anti-aircraft artillery school in Pinnow . From there he was commanded until 1953 for course X , the special course for training future military pilots of the NVA air forces ( Syzran on the Volga ).

After returning from the Soviet Union, W. Lobner was transferred to the KVP office in Cottbus, the predecessor organization of the divisional command of the 1st Air Defense Division of the NVA Air Force. There he initially took up the post of deputy commander for flight training and was commander of the 3rd division of the Cottbus aeroclub from 1954 to 1955 . He was then commanded to study at the Military Academy of the Air Force in the Soviet Union until 1959 . After successfully completing his studies, W. Lobner was appointed to the division command of the 1st LVD as the deputy commander for aeronautical training (A-3). From 1962 to 1965 he was employed as deputy commander and chief of staff in Jagdfliegergeschwader 1 and then until 1971 as deputy commander and chief of staff 1st LVD.

From 1971 to 1973 he was delegated to the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces for general staff training . After successfully completing his studies, he was transferred to the LSK / LV command at the post of head of department 1 with the deputy chief of staff for operational issues (later deputy CS and chief operational). From 1981 to 1982 he was deputy and chief of staff RD at the deputy head of LSK / LV and chief RD, also in the LSK / LV command.

Service as a general

In 1983 he was appointed deputy head of LSK / LV and head of rear services in the LSK / LV command. On October 7, 1984, Colonel Lobner was appointed major general.
