Joachim Richter (General)

Joachim Richter , also Emmes Richter (born July 22, 1929 in Hammerleubsdorf ; † March 9, 1998 ) was a lieutenant general of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic . From 1983 to 1989 he was head of the state administration of the state reserve at the Council of Ministers of the GDR .

Life and career

Joachim Richter was born into a working-class family in Hammerleubsdorf, Freiberg district. There he obtained the partial Abitur in basic subjects and learned the profession of typesetter from 1944 to 1948. In 1948 he became a member of the SED .

Joachim Richter came on 16 August 1948 as a volunteer applicants to the armed forces of the GDR, was on duty first as a policeman of the German People's Police , rising to 1950 quickly to the head of the VP-readiness Frankenberg / Zeithain. In 1951 he took part in an officer training course in Kochstedt and then became head of the VP Zeithain office. From 1952 to 1954 further leadership assignments followed as battalion commander of the VP-Dienststelle Kamenz II and the technical base Drewitz . After that, until 1956, Richter was employed as head of rear services at the Aeroklub Drewitz , the predecessor association of JG-7 . Subsequently he was commanded to study at the Military Academy for Rear Services and Transport in the Soviet Union until 1961 . After successfully completing his studies, Major Richter was deployed in the LSK / LV command as deputy chief and chief of staff rearward services .

Service as a general

As early as 1962, Lieutenant Colonel Richter was appointed to this distinguished post as Deputy Head of LSK / LV and Head of Rear Services in Command LSK / LV. Nine years later, on March 1, 1971, Richter was one of the last ten colonels to be appointed major general by Walter Ulbricht . The appointment was made by Erich Honecker, Secretary of the National Defense Council of the GDR, on February 26, 1971. In 1981 he was promoted to lieutenant general.

GenLtn Richter was transferred to the reserve on February 1, 1983 and appointed as the successor to Rudolf Tschoep as head of the state administration of the state reserve at the GDR Council of Ministers.
