Walter Marti (director)
Walter Marti (born July 10, 1923 in Zurich ; † December 21, 1999 there ) was a Swiss documentary filmmaker.
Life
Walter Marti spent his youth in Yverdon , where his father worked as a Protestant pastor for the German-speaking community. Through his friend Benno Besson he got to know the theater work and also his future wife Suzanne Paschoud (marriage 1947).
After graduating from high school in Zurich, Walter Marti studied Romance languages, art history and history at the University of Zurich . During his studies he worked as a journalist, translator and editor and worked for the radio.
Walter Marti began working for the film as an extra for Jacques Feyder , as a copywriter, commentary writer and subtitle writer for several hundred films. For eight months he was also head of the film department at Swiss television . In 1953 Walter Marti founded Teleproduction together with Reni Mertens - whom he met during his studies . Over four decades, Marti and Mertens subsequently produced twenty documentaries and in 1962 co-founded the Association of Swiss Film Designers (since 1998 Association of Swiss Film Directors and Scriptwriters ). Ursula or the unworthy life , a portrait of a deaf-blind girl, which arose from the collaboration with the rhythm teacher Mimi Scheiblauer , caused a stir . The Tele Production also produced some early films of Alain Tanner ( Les apprentis , 1964), Rolf Lyssy ( Eugen probably means born 1968), Jean-Jacques Lagrange and Erich Lang year ( Do it yourself , 1981). The production company was only dissolved in 1999 - shortly before the death of Marti and Mertens.
Walter Marti cultivated friendships with Bertolt Brecht , Helene Weigel , Cesare Zavattini , Helmar Lerski , Mario Comensoli , Hans Rudolf Hilty and other cultural workers.
