Walter Prager (born April 2, 1910 in Davos ; † 1984 ) was a Swiss ski racer and Nordic skier with US citizenship.

Prager became the first downhill world champion in the history of skiing at the Ski World Championships in Mürren in 1931 . He was able to repeat this success two years later at the 1933 World Cup in Innsbruck . At these world championships he also took part in the Nordic disciplines and reached rank 20 in Nordic combined , rank 26 in jumping and rank 44 in cross-country skiing over 18 km. Also in 1933 he became Swiss ski champion in a combination of cross-country skiing and jumping.

After his active career - which he ended as a member of the Arosa Ski Club - Prager was first head of the ski school in Stoos in 1936 and later a ski trainer in the USA . He led numerous athletes to national and international successes, including Ralph Miller and Chiharu Igaya . During World War II , Prager served in the 10th Mountain Division . At the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , he was the coach of the US Olympic ski team. In 1957 he finally retired from skiing.
