Walter Reese-Shepherd

Walter Reese-Schäfer (* 1951 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German political scientist .

Life

Reese-Schäfer studied from 1969 to 1975 at the University of Hamburg . In 1978 he was promoted to Dr. phil. in 1979 he passed the state examination for teaching at grammar schools. From 1978 to 1992 he worked as a documentary journalist for the weekly magazine Stern and the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . Afterwards he was assistant to the political scientist Richard Saage at the University of Halle , after the habilitation in 1995 senior assistant. In the summer semester 1999 he represented the political scientist Karl Rohe at the University of Essen , from the winter semester 1999/2000 to the winter semester 2000/2001 Udo Bermbach at the University of Hamburg. In 2001 he was appointed to the chair for political theory and history of ideas at the University of Göttingen as the successor to Walter Euchner . From October 2013 he was dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Research areas

Reese-Schäfer's research areas are ancient and contemporary political theory in North America and Europe, civic engagement and communitarianism .
