Rainer Zimmermann (communication scientist)

Rainer Zimmermann (born April 9, 1956 ) is a German entrepreneur and communication scientist. Since 2005 he has been professor for strategy, design and communication at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences .

Life

Rainer Zimmermann studied German , sociology and journalism in Münster and did his doctorate on the concept of epochs in Germany in the 1930s. Parallel to his studies, he completed a journalistic training and wrote as a freelance editor for magazines and newspapers. He started working as a communications consultant at ABC / Eurocom in Düsseldorf . In 1992 he changes to the PR agency Kohtes & Klewes as a partner and leads the agency as CEO 1996–1999. In 2000 he was appointed CEO of BBDO Germany and during this time he is also the Deputy President of the General Association of Communication Agencies (GWA). In 2004 Zimmermann formed the European communication agency Pleon from Kohtes & Klewes and the Brodeur network . Since 2005 he has been professor of strategy, design and communication at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences , and since 2009 he has headed the think tank of the strategic communication consultancy Deekeling Arndt Advisors .

Teaching and Research

Parallel to his activity as an entrepreneur in the communications and media industry, Zimmermann taught integrated communication at the EBS University of Economics and Law , a private university in Oestrich-Winkel from 1997 to 1998 , and from 1999 on brand management and campaigning at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . From 2003 to 2004 he taught media management and brand management at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . In 2005 he became professor of strategy and communication at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences for the department of design and has been a member of the university council there since 2008. In his teaching and research work, Zimmermann is still influenced by hermeneutics and the philosophy of language . His scientific and creative work investigates the relationship between text and image, the iconic turn , interdisciplinary strategic action patterns and design as an integrated process design. Zimmermann carries out numerous research projects for industry together with the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and cooperating universities. The focus is on the automotive, financial services and telecommunications sectors. Since 2009 Zimmermann has been teaching and researching increasingly in the fields of New Civic Design and Retail Design .

Identity Foundation

The Identity Foundation was founded in 1998 by Paul J. Kohtes with the aim of making a contribution to scientific research into the complex of identity . It is important to the foundation that interdisciplinary approaches from ontology are chosen. The relevant disciplines include sociology, psychology, philosophy, business administration, theology and art. Studies and research projects of the foundation examine, for example, the identity of managers, Europe and Germany, the relationship between spirituality and happiness or the differences between an Asian and a European conception of identity. Since 2001, the foundation has awarded the Meister-Eckhart-Preis, the most highly endowed philosophy award in Germany, with which Richard Rorty (2001), Claude Lévi-Strauss (2003), Ernst Tugendhat (2005), Amartya Sen (2007), Amitai Etzioni ( 2009) and Michel Serres (2012) were honored. Zimmermann is a founding member of the scientific advisory board and a member of the jury for the Meister Eckhart Prize.

Think tank

The think tank of the strategic communications consultancy Deekeling Arndt Advisors develops tools under the direction of Zimmermann to dynamize innovation and change projects as well as growth programs intellectually and creatively. Zimmermann focuses on interdisciplinary research projects on economic and strategic issues. With its scientific board of trustees and a network from politics, business, science and design, the think tank is globally and interdisciplinary oriented towards the topics of strategy, innovation, art, culture & design, science and future research. Members of the scientific board of trustees of the Deekeling Arndt Think Tanks are Heinz-Werner Nienstedt , professor of media management at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and former CEO of the Handelsblatt publishing group, and Walter Reese-Schäfer , professor of political science with a focus on the history of ideas and contemporary diagnostics at Georg -August University of Göttingen .
