The Wannig (also Hochwannig or Wanneck ) is a 2,493 m high peak in the Mieminger chain in Tyrol .

location

The Wannig forms the western end of the Mieming chain. To the south-west lies the village of Nassereith in the Gurgltal , to the south the Holzleitensattel , which connects the Gurgltal with the Mieminger Plateau . In the north is the Fernpass , a transition from the Gurgltal to Biberwier in the Ehrwald basin . To the east, the Mieminger chain with the glove tips and the Marienbergjoch (1,789 m) continues.

The top four hundred meters of the Wannig are characterized by rocks and scree fields, and below it is a wide belt of pine trees . In the lower-lying regions of the western and southern slopes there are remains of old mining activities, here lead and zinc ores ( Smithsonite ) were mined in the Feigenstein mining area.

Climbs

The Wannig is usually climbed from the Nassereither Alm (also called Muthenaualm ) located northwest at 1,718 m , which can be reached from the Fernpass, from the Albangerle north of Nassereith, from Biberwier or from the Marienbergjoch. This path leads over the western flank, the Grüne Wanne , to the summit (points UIAA I ). Another path from Nassereith meets this ascent at an altitude of approx. 1,780 m.

From the Marienbergjoch the Wannig is climbed over the glove tips (places UIAA I ), further climbs over the north ridge ( UIAA I ) and the north face ( UIAA III ) are rarely climbed .
