The Wartberg is a 306  m above sea level. NN high mountain near the Kirchberg district of Niedenstein in the Schwalm-Eder district of northern Hesse .

Because of the local main site, a late Neolithic culture from the Neolithic Age was named after the Wartberg - the Wartberg culture .

Geographical location

The Wartberg, which is located in the Fritzlarer Börde or the Gudensberger Kuppenschwelle just outside the southern border of the Habichtswald Nature Park , is a free-standing, typical basalt cone directly south of the village of Kirchberg , a south-south-west part of Niedenstein . A section of the Eder tributary Ems flows west past the Wartberg, which is partially forested and is taken up by a nature reserve , and a section of the small Ems tributary Matzoff flows past it to the north .

On the southern slope of the Wartberg stands the Rübezahl house , a house designed and furnished by the realistic Sudeten German painter and commercial artist Max Barta (1900–1990), in which he lived from completion until 1990.

In the early days, the Wartberg was a settlement site of the Wartberg culture , whereupon numerous archaeological finds - such as human and animal bones - from the period from 2000 to 1800 BC. Let close.
