Wasserlosen is a part of the municipality of the same name Wasserlosen in the district of Schweinfurt in Lower Franconia ( Bavaria ).

geography

Wasserlosen lies in Franconia on the Franconian dry plate . In the south of Wasserlosen lies Greßthal , in the north Sulzthal , in the southeast Obbach.

history

On July 4th 804 Wasserlosen was first mentioned in a document with the name Wazerlosum .

At the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1870/71 there were two casualties from Wasserlosen.

On February 4, 1911, the first water pipeline was put into operation. This ended the water shortage that gave the town its name. In 1982 Wasserlosen became a member of the Kaistener Group water procurement association.

At the end of the Second World War, Wasserlosen had 33 dead and 10 missing.

In 1951, on instructions from the Americans, there was a threat of an expansion of the Hammelburg military training area ( Bonnland ), which, along with five other villages, would also fall victim to waterless people. On June 8, 1951, several hundred farmers drove to Bonn to demonstrate against these intentions in front of the Federal Palace. Due to the massive protest and resistance of the population and the help of the Bundestag member Maria Probst , these plans were not implemented. As a thank you for the help, the sports hall was later named after her.

On December 30, 1980, the former Federal President Karl Carstens stayed for three hours in Wasserlosen on one of his hikes across Germany. Michael Glos , the former Minister of Economic Affairs, was among his 400 fellow travelers .
