geography

Schwemmelsbach is located in Franconia . Rütschenhausen is to the east of Schwemmelsbach , Wülfershausen to the west, Burghausen to the southwest , Kaisten and Brebersdorf to the southeast, and Greßthal to the northeast .

history

Schwemmelsbach was first mentioned in a document on May 12, 1304. Burial mounds from the Hallstatt Period (700–450 BC) and the Bronze Age (1700–900 BC) suggest that the area has been inhabited for much longer. The grave mounds from the Hallstatt period were excavated and the finds archived in the Mainfränkisches Museum in Würzburg. They were completely destroyed in the bombing raid on Würzburg on March 16, 1945 . The ending -bach in the place name suggests a settlement in the context of the Franconian land conquest around the year 700. In the course of the Thirty Years' War and the plague, the village was given up and rebuilt in 1654 under Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau zu Vollraths . The farmers came from the old village, from Wülfershausen, Burghausen, Fuchsstadt , Gauaschach , Altbessingen , Schraudenbach , Eßleben , Hirschfeld and Frammersbach near Lohr.

On April 7, 1945, the American army marched into Schwemmelsbach.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community was incorporated into the Wasserlosen community.
