geography
Spring streams
The Dorndorfer Bach arises at an altitude of 229 m above sea level. NHN from the confluence of Kieselbach and Watzenbach east of Dorndorf in the Westerwald . However, some see "Kieselbach" only as a name for the upper reaches of the Dorndorfer Bach.
Kieselbach
The Kieselbach is the 2.17 kilometer long right source brook of the Dorndorfer Bach .
The Kieselbach arises in the Rhineland-Palatinate Westerwald in two spring branches southeast of Girkenroth at the foot of the Girkenrother Kopf near the border with Hesse . The left, about 800 m long main branch rises in a small forest and at an altitude of 418 m above sea level. NHN ( coordinates ). The two branches of the spring come together in a mixed forest about 400 m across the border on Hessian soil . The Kieselbach now leaves the forest and flows southeastwards, on the northern edge of a tip of the same forest protruding to the southeast, through a meadow landscape. His path there is accompanied by a border with bushes and other riparian wood. It reaches the northern edge of Dornburg - Dorndorf at Blasiusstrasse and passes the village, partly through a verdict. After crossing under the main road , it leaves the village, now flows through grassland again and finally joins the Watzenbach from the north to form the Dorndorfer Bach .
Watzenbach
The Watzenbach is the 2.98 kilometers long left source brook of the Dorndorfer Bach .
The Watzenbach rises in a coniferous forest about one kilometer east of the Watzenhahn and at an altitude of 426 m above sea level. NHN ( coordinates ). Its source is located directly on the border between Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse , still within the district of Berzhahn . After about 10 m it crosses the border in the direction of Hesse, flows further south and then changes to a mixed forest area . Its course is strongly straightened here. It now makes a wide arc to the right and then aligns itself more towards the southeast. After a good kilometer, it leaves the forest and now flows through grassland, past the Biberschenke , which lies between a large granite quarry in the west and the designated nature reserve Blasiusberg in the east. It flows around Dorndorf from the east, passes the St. Blasiushof , then crosses under the L 3279 and finally, together with the Kieselbach coming from the northwest , forms the Dorndorfer Bach .
course
After the union of its two source streams, the Dorndorfer Bach begins its course southeast through meadows and fields, makes a small curve to the left and then moves along the western edge of the Westerwaldgrube nature reserve near Thalheim . He now turns to the southwest and flows through a small wet meadow at Talhof over. Then runs accompanied by the Frickhöfer Straße on the western edge of a deciduous forest and finally flows out at an altitude of 162 m above sea level. NHN on the northern edge of Dornburg - Thalheim in the Salzbach .
