Watzhahn is the smallest district of Taunusstein in the Rheingau-Taunus district in Hesse .

Geographical location

The place is in the western Hintertaunus , north of the largest Taunussteiner district Bleidenstadt . It is located on the district road 700 between Born and Bleidenstadt.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1344. This was a correspondence from which it emerges that Hertwin von Watzhahn is losing his estate to the Eberbach monastery . The village was probably depopulated as a result of the Thirty Years' War . It was not settled again until 1682. The former parish hall was inaugurated in 1810. The village community center has existed since 1954 .

On October 1, 1971, Watzhahn voluntarily merged with five neighboring towns to form the city of Taunusstein as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
