Weßmar is a district of the village of Raßnitz , which in turn belongs to the municipality of Schkopau in Saxony-Anhalt .

Geographical location

Weßmar is the easternmost part of the village of Raßnitz. The White Elster flows directly south of the village . The place is at a height of 98 m above sea level.

history

Until 1815, Weßmar belonged to the Schkeuditz office of the Merseburg penitentiary , which had been under Electoral Saxon sovereignty since 1561 and belonged to the secondary school principality of Saxony-Merseburg between 1656/57 and 1738 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna the place came in 1815 to Prussia and in 1816 the county Merseburg in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1,952th In 1910 there had been 302 people in Weßmar and in the associated manor district, making a total of 381 people. In 1933 the place had 372, in 1939 321 inhabitants.

Weßmar was an independent municipality until 1950, but on July 1, 1950, it was incorporated into Raßnitz, a little further west. During the district reform in the GDR, the place became part of the Merseburg district in the Halle district in 1952 , which became part of the Merseburg-Querfurt district in 1994 and the Saale district in 2007 . On August 1, 2004, Weßmar, like all of Raßnitz, was incorporated into Schkopau.

The evangelical late-Gothic church of St. Michaelis located in the center of the village , remodeled in the Baroque style, is the only church in Raßnitz.

Sons and daughters of the place

Werner Stiller was born in 1947 , who fled to the West in 1979 as first lieutenant in the Enlightenment Headquarters and thus became the central figure in one of the most spectacular espionage affairs of the Cold War .
