Weberbauerocereus torataensis is a species of plant from the genus Weberbauerocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the place where it was found, the Torata district in the Mariscal Nieto province of the Moquegua region in southwestern Peru .

description

Weberbauerocereus torataensis grows shrubby with spreading to ascending, gray-green shoots with a diameter of 5 to 8 centimeters and reaches heights of 2 to 3 meters. The 11 to 15 blunt, very thick ribs are 8 millimeters high. The slightly orange-brown colored areoles located on it are circular to slightly elongated. The reddish-brown thorns emerging from them are difficult to divide into central and radial spines. The four to eight central spines are 0.7 to 5 centimeters, the 10 to 14 needle-like radial spines 0.4 to 1 centimeter long.

The zygomorphic flowers are 9 to 10 centimeters long. Their reddish-brown tube is covered with small green scales and reddish wool. The bracts are purple-pink or greenish-pink. The barrel-shaped fruits are orange when ripe.

Distribution and systematics

Weberbauer ocereus torataensis is common in the Peruvian region of Moquegua near Torata at altitudes of 1500 to 2000 meters. It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter . A synonym is Haageocereus torataensis (F.Ritter) PVHeath .
