Preith fortified church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fortified church Preith is a former fortified church and today's parish church of St. Brigida in Preith (Römerstrasse), a district of the municipality of Pollenfeld in the district of Eichstätt in Bavaria .

Fortified church of Preith

The medieval basement of the tower still comes from the former fortified church, which presumably also served as a refuge for the local population . The baroque church is surrounded by the late medieval curtain wall , the former cemetery fortification, with a two-storey gate tower with two key notches and stone pans for the gate.

Since the knight Heinrich von Muhr zu Konstein sold, among other things, the right to fill the pastoral position to the cathedral chapter in 1302, the fortified church must have existed as early as the 12th century. The cemetery fortifications, a weir system typical of the Eichstätt area, were probably built at the beginning of the 15th century.
