history

Weichau was first mentioned in a document in 1350. The place belonged with the higher courts to the Wettin office of Camburg , which was due to several divisions in the course of its existence under the sovereignty of various Ernestine and Albertine duchies . Until the Reformation, large parts of the field belonged to the Neuwerk monastery in Halle and after 1539 to the cameraman of Halle. In 1826, Weichau came as part of the Camburg exclave from the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . From 1922 to 1939 the place belonged to the Camburg district department , and then to the Jena-Stadtroda district until 1952.

The farmers were forcibly collectivized during the GDR . After the reunification they found new ways in agriculture. In 2012 a total of 150 people lived in Weichau and Kaatschen.

In terms of the church, Weichau was part of the parish in Bad Sulza until the 20th century, then came to Großheringen and after its dissolution is back at home in Bad Sulza.
