Weide is located on the western edge of the urban area of Bad Laasphe on the border with the Erndtebrück municipality . To the west of the village rises the 659 meter high birch hedge belonging to the southern mountains of the Rothaargebirge . Weide is around 9 km (as the crow flies ) from the core town of Bad Laasphe .

The village emerged as a canon settlement , probably around 1706. Its original name was Stuppenhausen , named after the tree stumps (stumps) that were created by the clearing . This name, first recorded in 1720, was not able to establish itself. The name Weide emerged from In der Weide , which is still used in dialect today . The previously independent municipality has belonged to the city of Bad Laasphe since the Sauerland / Paderborn Act was implemented on January 1, 1975 .
