Welcome to Carcass Cuntry is a studio album released in 2006 . It was released by Jeff Walker , bassist and vocalist for British metal band Carcass , under the name Jeff Walker and Die Flüffers. Walker reinterprets well - known country songs with the help of well-known musicians from the metal scene .
background
The idea of an album of cover versions take up of well-known country songs, came Walker when he documentaries about country music and Gram Parsons saw. He wanted to record the songs in a new, rocking sound and thus pay tribute to these musicians. He was inspired by bands like Trouble and Black Sabbath . The selection of the pieces was the sole responsibility of Walker; during the implementation he consulted the musicians involved. Walker left it open whether there will be another publication of the project. According to his own statements, he did not seek permission from the rights holder to re-record the songs. This was not necessary due to the completely new arrangements.
For the recordings, Walker asked various musicians he still knew from his time at Carcass, most of them accepted. He received rejections from Lee Dorrian ( Cathedral ), Mike Patton ( Faith No More ) and Björk . Walker couldn't play the bass himself because his instrument broke on the flight to Helsinki. Niclas Etelävuori ( Amorphis ) and Jamie Cavanagh ( Anathema ) shared most of the bass recordings. Jeff Walker had recorded demos on a drum computer so that the musicians involved could get an idea of the basic tempo . Joint rehearsals did not take place before the studio recordings began. These began in Helsinki , Finland in September 2004 and lasted almost a year because they were interrupted by performances by Walker with To Separate the Flesh from the Bones and Brujeria . Tomi Koivusaari (Amorphis) can be heard as guitarist on all tracks , behind the pseudonym Pus Sypope hides Mika Karppinen from the dark rock band HIM . Walker took out the drums - rhythm guitars - and some keyboard - traces on, were added to each session musician . Because of the large number of artists involved, the recordings took place in different studios and had to be overdubbed . The orchestral recordings took place in December 2004 at the Birmingham Conservatoire . The final mix was done by Amorphis' Santeri Kallio at Finnvox Studios .
The record cover was made by the American cartoonist Larry Welz. The figure on the front is Cherry , the title character of the Welz comic series of the same name. The album sold in Europe around 30,000 times, in the USA the album with a sticker was Parental Advisory (ger .: warning for parents ) provided reason was the album title (cunt is a slang word for vulva ).

reception
The reviews were mostly positive. Volkmar Weber from Rock Hard writes that the classics are "very stylish and downright inconspicuous" and that the album is less suitable for Carcass fans. Fred Schmidtlein from Home of Rock sums up that "Walker ... succeeded in a roaring comic parody with sometimes very unusual instrumental performances". Adrien Begand from PopMatters is amazed at the list of well-known guest musicians and says that Walker has shown good taste in selecting the pieces. The music is fun, the artwork is cool and the cover version of Rocky Mountain High is extremely adorable.
