Wenzel Heinrich Veit
Wenzel Heinrich Veit ( Václav Jindřich Veit , born January 19, 1806 in Repnitz, a district of Libochovany , Austrian Empire ; † February 16, 1864 in Leitmeritz ) was a Bohemian lawyer and composer .
Veit, son of a leaseholder in Repnitz, studied law and philosophy at the Charles University in Prague from 1821 to 1828 and received a permanent position at the Prague City Administration . In 1834 he passed the examination as a professional judge and later became a criminal actuary. In 1841 he worked for a short time as music director of the city orchestra of Aachen . He turned down the post of municipal music director in Augsburg . From 1850 he was a councilor at the Imperial and Royal Higher Regional Court in Prague; from 1854 to 1862 president of the district court in Eger, today's Cheb , where he lived in the Schillerhaus (Cheb) and composed the "Mass" and the "Symphonie". In 1862 he became the district court president in Leitmeritz, where he also worked as the head of the organist and singer school.
He composed two symphonies ( "Episode from a Tailor's Life" for small orchestra and a symphony in E minor, Op. 49, which was premiered on October 20, 1859 in the Gewandhaus Leipzig ), several overtures , a violin concerto , string quartets and quintets, a Missa solemnis , a large hard fair and a Te Deum , songs and men quartets and published the Leitmeritzer hymnal .
