Reviews

Michael Ranze, film correspondent for the Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater , writes that one would not sympathize with Grace as a viewer, she is simply too contentious, self-centered and demanding for that. With the pathos that Annette Bening sometimes bestows on her, it also becomes clear that she is afraid of loneliness and of a life without love. Bill Nighy, on the other hand, perfectly embodies the speechless man who can only defend himself against his wife's accusations by fleeing. His new partner, however, accepts him for who he is, with all the quirks and flaws. Sitting between the chairs is Josh O'Connor 's son Jamie, who is not allowed to take sides, although he has clearly estranged himself from his overprotective mother.
