Werner Hahn (doctor)

Werner Hahn (born March 7, 1912 in Trier , † January 14, 2011 in Kiel ) was a German maxillofacial surgeon and Nestor of German oral surgery .

Professional background

Born the son of a judiciary, Hahn studied dentistry after graduating from the University of Trier , the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf . Hahn regained its 1934 approval as a dentist and received his doctorate in 1937 med to the doctor. dent. This was followed by an assistantship with Georg Axhausen in Berlin and at the Charité , while he began studying medicine , which was initially interrupted by the Second World War .

Hahn was a member of the SA, the Sturmabteilung , the paramilitary fighting organization of the NSDAP during the Weimar Republic , which, as a police force, played a decisive role in the rise of the National Socialists . Later he became a member of the SS, the Schutzstaffel (SS), the most important organ of terror and repression in the Nazi state. The SS was instrumental in the planning and implementation of war crimes and crimes against humanity such as the Holocaust.

During the war years he worked as the head of the jaw ward in an Air Force military hospital. Before the end of the war he became a dentist for oral surgery. In 1947 he was appointed head of the surgical department of the University and Polyclinic for Dental, Oral and Jaw Diseases at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 1955 he was appointed senior physician at the clinic and in 1961 an adjunct professor . In the same year he was called to Kiel, where he took over the management of the surgical department of the clinic for tooth, mouth and jaw diseases and was appointed full professor in 1965. From 1969 to 1980 he was full professor for oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

In 1976 he founded the Working Group for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology (AKFOS) of the German Society for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine (DGZMK) and was its chairman for more than 20 years. From the very beginning he campaigned for further training to become a "specialist dentist for forensic odontology", but without success.

Two years after his retirement, he took over the scientific management of the newly founded Heinrich Hammer Institute , the central advanced training facility of the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Dentists, for twenty years .
