Werner Kirst (born December 30, 1924 in Naundorf ; † February 14, 2012 in Kiel ) was a German handball player , handball trainer and university lecturer .
Career
Werner Kirst played with SC Leipzig in the handball league of the GDR until 1956 . Then he moved to the Federal Republic, where the sports teacher worked as a trainer from then on. He led the handball players of 1. FC Nürnberg to the German championship. He later coached Borussia Fulda .
From 1974, Kirst was a lecturer in handball training at the Institute for Sports Science at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , and after he placed an advertisement in handball week that he was looking for a coaching position, he was signed up for the 1975/76 season by Bundesliga club THW Kiel , where he resigned in April 1976 after severe criticism within the club. When THW parted ways with coach Željko Seleš during the 1977/78 season , Kirst took over the coaching position of the zebras again , but then resigned again after the home defeat against Frisch Auf Göppingen in November 1978.
Later Kirst coached the regional league team of TSV Altenholz , the women's regional league team of SV Friedrichsort and, for a short time, the Bundesliga club SG Weiche-Handewitt .
He was married to Erika Kirst (née Bergmann), a former handball national of the GDR .
