Werner Kleinschmidt

Werner Kleinschmidt (born March 25, 1907 in Berlin ; † after 1979 ) was a German painter , set designer , textile designer , art book publisher and university lecturer .

Live and act

Having 1926-1927 at the University of his native city (former name: Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität ) the subjects history , philosophy and German studies had occupied, he moved to the State Art School in Berlin and was until 1931 to 1927 art teacher at train higher schools . From 1936 to 1938 he worked as a trainee with the textile designer Maria May in her “Maria May Studio”. From 1939 to 1940 he was the studio manager of the German Fashion Institute and then from 1940 to 1943 department head of the Berlin Textile and Fashion School.

In 1945 he began working as a stage and occasionally costume designer at the Schloßpark Theater in Berlin-Steglitz , which lasted until around 1958. In 1950 he was employed in the same position at the Deutsches Theater in the eastern part of the city . In the years up to 1965 he also worked at the Freie Volksbühne , the tribune and above all at the Schiller Theater .

In addition, he worked as a freelance painter, designer and art book publisher. He did commissioned work by creating designs for textiles, wallpaper, glass windows , mosaics and consumer goods, and offered color advice . From 1956 to 1970 he was a lecturer for stage design and costume at the master school for arts and crafts in Berlin-Charlottenburg . There he trained Martin Rupprecht and Eberhard Westphal, for example .

The last proven place of residence (1979) was Oberstaufen- Wiedemannsdorf in Oberallgäu.
