Carl Werner Reinhold , also Karl Werner Reinhold , Latinized Carolus Guernherus Reinhold , pseudonym Hilarius Satyr (born November 23, 1806 in Woldegk ; † May 21, 1863 in Landsberg ad Warthe ) was a German writer and chronicler .

Life

Werner Reinhold, brother of the Low German poet Albert Reinhold (1805–1850), was born as the son of pastor Friedrich Ludwig Reinhold (1766–1832), who also wrote, in the small country town of Woldegk in Mecklenburg-Strelitz . He attended the academic schools in Friedland and Neubrandenburg and studied philology at the universities of Rostock and Greifswald. In Rostock he joined the Corps Vandalia , in Greifswald 1826/27 the old Greifswald fraternity . In Greifswald , he was with a thesis on Terence Dr. phil. PhD. In the rest of his life, Reinhold took various approaches to build a secure livelihood. He made his way as a private teacher and writer and worked in various cities in Mecklenburg , Pomerania and Brandenburg . He wrote several chronicles of northern German cities, wrote novels and in 1838 started an edition of Terenz.

Reinhold left a remarkable work. Because of the extensive source material on which they are based, some of his chronicles still serve as popular reference works and are reprinted. His efforts to establish himself as a Low German poet were barely honored by his contemporaries. Fritz Reuter scoffed at him: “Poet Reinhold was doctor up blote Kroniken, de he von Woldegk un Fredland un Anklam un säbenuntwintig annere Smökers Tausamen smert hett.” Nonetheless, Reinhold's “Prehistory of the City of Woldegk” provided Reuter with the inspiration for the title of his “Prehistory von Meckelnborg ” .
