Green politicians

After his retirement he became an early member of Die Grünen, which was founded in 1980 . In the founding year of the federal party, he ran for the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1980 and the federal election in 1980 . In an election commercial, he played a grandfather who explained to his granddaughter dead fish on the banks of the Rhine by saying that “industry has poisoned the Rhine water.” The Greens failed to make it into both parliaments; However, Vogel was elected to the state board of the NRW Greens.

Vogel supported demands of the groups Indian commune Nuremberg and “Kinderfrühling Wiesbaden” for the elimination of the child protection laws and for the legalization of pederasty towards the federal executive committee of the Greens . On September 24th and 25th, 1983, a children and youth congress was held in the Emmaus Center on the Dachsberg in Kamp-Lintfort , with a particular focus on the topic of sex with children. The congress was organized by Vogel. According to information from the world and the Bayernkurier , this congress was financed by the Green Party Executive Committee of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the study by Franz Walter on The Greens and the paedosexuality Werner Vogel is erroneously represented as "wolf bird".

Vogel had already given the NRW state executive information about his life, including his membership in SA and NSDAP, at a closed meeting in Altenmelle in 1981. "As you can already see from my date of birth, I am one of those who have gone through all the basic follies of this century," he had explained to the other twelve conference participants at the time.

When the Greens moved into the Bundestag in 1983, Werner Vogel was elected from the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. As senior president, he should have given the opening speech and thus the first speech by a member of the Greens in the German Bundestag . Because some party friends knew his sexual preference for children, prominent Greens, u. a. the federal managing director, Lukas Beckmann , Vogel to renounce the appearance as senior president of the Bundestag. In addition, through an indiscretion, Vogel's Nazi past had now also been made known in the Federal Main Committee of the Greens. Vogel then announced in the parliamentary group meeting on March 14, 1983 that he would not take up his mandate. Dieter Drabiniok moved into the Bundestag on March 29, 1983 as a successor . Willy Brandt gave the opening speech as old age president that day .

From then on Werner Vogel was only involved at the municipal level. Until 1991 he worked as a legal advisor, mainly for foreigners and minorities.
