Werner Voigt (born June 26, 1947 in Wildau ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .

Career as a player

Born in Wildau, the midfielder Voigt went through the youth teams of the Brandenburg SG Niederlehme and Dynamo Königs Wusterhausen as well as the BFC Dynamo . Until 1973 Voigt played as a state amateur with BFC, then until 1975 with 1. FC Union Berlin and finally from 1975 to 1976 with Dynamo Fürstenwalde . In total, Voigt completed 18 games in the GDR league as the highest division of the German Democratic Republic.

Career as a coach

After his active career Voigt became a qualified sports teacher and worked as a youth coach and coach of the second team playing in the second-class league at BFC Dynamo .

In 1986 Voigt then took over the coaching position at FC Hansa Rostock , who had been relegated to the league under Claus Kreul in the previous season. In his first year at Hansa, Voigt not only achieved immediate promotion, but also made it to the FDGB Cup final , which despite being in the lead in the meantime, was lost 4-1 to 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . In the following season 1987/88 the league reached Hansa under Voigt with a ninth place the relegation and qualified in 1988/89 with a fourth place for the international UEFA Cup 1989/90 . There Hansa was eliminated in the first round against Baník Ostrava and took sixth place in the table in the 1989/90 season .

For the last championship round of the GDR in 1990/91 , which was considered to qualify for the all-German Bundesliga , Hansa replaced Voigt with the coach Uwe Reinders , who had been active in West Germany until then , who was to win the championship and the cup with Rostock, while Voigt was coach instead 1. FC Union Berlin , with whom he failed as a second division team in qualifying for the all-German 2. Bundesliga .

From 1992 to 1994 Voigt was the trainer of the BSV Brandenburg . From summer 1996 to spring 1998 Voigt was coach of the meanwhile renamed FC Berlin BFC Dynamo, then in summer 1998 at Dynamo Dresden , whereby his activity was terminated prematurely.

In July 2004 Voigt became the coach of the second team of 1. FC Union Berlin , but already in September the head coach of the first team, whose previous coach Frank Wormuth had been dismissed after only a few months of work due to unsuccessfulness. Even under Voigt, the team did not play more successfully, which is why he gave up his position in December 2004.

From summer 2005 to September 2008 Voigt worked as a trainer at the lower class SV Lichtenberg 47 . He now trains the Köpenicker SC.
