Location of the Weser-Geest barracks in Lower Saxony |
The Weser-Geest barracks (until 1991 Neuenkirchen barracks ) was a property of the Bundeswehr in Schwanewede . The Panzerartillerielehrbataillon 325 (ArtLehrBtl 325; until 2001 under the name Panzerartilleriebataillon 325 (PzArtBtl 325)) was stationed in the barracks .
location
The barracks was located between Schwanewede and its district of Neuenkirchen ( incorporated in 1974 ) south of Landesstraße 149. Two kilometers to the east was the larger Lützow barracks , south of the Schwanewede training area, the Farge tank farm and the state border with Bremen, and to the west of three and a half kilometers was the Weser .
The 23 hectare barracks had several accommodation buildings, a farm building, a sports field and a sports hall, a technical area and its own siding with a loading ramp.
history
During the Second World War , a barracks warehouse for the construction of two large tank farms for the navy and the “Valentin” submarine bunker was built on the site of the later barracks . At the end of the war, a naval hospital was housed on the site and then the Evangelical Hospital Neuenkirchen.
Schwanewede became a garrison in 1958. In 1962 the Bundeswehr took over the barracks camp and later built barracks there to relieve the Lützow barracks at the same location, which was opened in 1982. As a result, the armored artillery battalion 325 moved into the barracks. The association was the main user throughout the barracks' existence. He was subordinate to the 32nd Panzer Grenadier Brigade, which was also stationed in Schwanewede . The officers of the Weser-Geest barracks also used the officers' mess of the Lützow barracks, which was built in 1967 , as none existed here.
In 1991 the barracks were renamed Weser- Geest -barracks according to their geographical location in the Wesermünder Geest .
In 2004 the armored artillery training battalion 325 moved temporarily from the barracks to the nearby Lützow barracks and in 2006 finally to the Hindenburg barracks in Munster . Today there is an industrial park and the Baracke Wilhelmine memorial on the site . The sports facilities are used for club sports.
