The Wessen is a 344.3  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in Eichsfeld in northwest Thuringia , Germany .

Geographical location

The Wessen lies north of the Leine directly between the places Uder in the south and Steinheuterode in the north, the district town of Heilbad Heiligenstadt is about three kilometers to the east.

Natural classification

According to the natural spatial structure in the Kassel sheet, the mountain is part of the Eichsfeld Hügelland (No. 375.1) within the Lower Eichsfeld (No. 375) and is part of the Weser-Leine-Bergland (No. 37). The Wessen is demarcated as a witness mountain made of shell limestone within the red sandstone landscape of the central Eichsfeld along a fault zone (together with the Steinberg adjoining it to the north : 366.0 m and Dietzenberg : 371.2 m) as an independent natural area.

According to the structure within Thuringia ( The Natural Spaces of Thuringia ), it is assigned to the Werrabergland-Hörselberge unit.

particularities

The wooded hilltop, although not the highest mountain in the area, is called Uder's local mountain, the flatter slopes of the mountain are used for agriculture. Numerous hiking trails lead over and along the mountain. On its southern slope there is a log cabin with a view of the Udersche Leinetal and the adjoining mountains of the western Upper Eichsfeld . At its eastern foot before the confluence of the Beber in the Leine is the Rengelröder Warte , a former watch tower of the city of Heiligenstadt.
