The western Karwendelspitze is 2385 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Karwendel on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol . The summit is part of the Northern Karwendel Range and lies between the Karwendeltal and the Isar valley in the west above Mittenwald , from where it can be reached by cable car. From the mountain station of the Karwendelbahn a partly wire rope insured path leads to the summit in about 20 minutes. Climbs without a cable car usually lead from Mittenwald through the Dammkar or, more demanding and more direct, via the Karwendelsteig , which leads past the Mittenwalder Hut .
In the notch between the western Karwendelspitze and the northern Linderspitze ( 2372 m above sea level ), the well-known Mittenwalder Höhenweg begins alongside the Heinrich-Noe-Weg to the Brunnsteinhütte . The northern end of the climb - not the actual entry point, as is often assumed - is on the summit of the Western Karwendelspitze.
Just as important as the Mittenwald via ferrata in summer, the Dammkar is Germany's longest ski tour and freeride descent in winter.
On April 29, 1931, Matthias Krinner and Hermann Lanzl from Mittenwald managed the direct descent from the western Karwendelspitze over the Wanne down to Mittenwald, which was only repeated on March 8, 1969 by the mountain hunters Jost Gudelius and Stefan Schoene.
