The Western Plattenspitze is a 2883 m high mountain in the Silvretta at the end of the Montafon and lies on the border between the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and the Swiss canton of Graubünden .
Ascent
The ascent takes place from the Tübinger Hütte ( 2191 m / 2 hours), from the Vermuntsee ( 1743 m / 4 hours) via the Saarbrücker Hütte ( 2538 m / 2 hours) or from the Seetalhütte ( 2065 m / 3¼ hours).
All paths lead over the Plattenjoch, which is 2728 m high; From here on an unsecured path, a 20-minute ascent to the summit cross of the Western Plattenspitze. On its north side, near the yoke, built into the rock, is a shelter hut without heating material. The crumbling west summit, which can be reached with easy climbing, is slightly higher than the east summit with a cross.
The view from the summit shows the Lechquellen Mountains , the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps , the Verwall in the north, the Drusenfluh with Schesaplana and Sulzfluh in the north-west, the imposing image with the Großem Litzner ( 3109 m ), the sea horns in the east, the striking one in the south Pyramid of Piz Linard ( 3411 m ) and behind it the Bernina group . In the west you can see many famous peaks of the Bernese Alps , about 150 km away .
