The Piz Linard is a mountain in the Rhaetian Alps . It is located in Switzerland and is 3410  m above sea level. M. high. This makes it the highest mountain in the Silvretta . It towers over the village of Lavin in the Lower Engadine by approx. 2000  m and is therefore one of its landmarks . In the Atlas Suisse (1802) it was still referred to as "Selvreta M" (ons).

The first ascent of Piz Linard was carried out on August 1, 1835 by the natural scientist Professor Oswald Heer and Johann Madutz (guide). Local hunters may have been on the summit earlier, but this could never be conclusively proven. There was a rumor that as early as 1572 a man named Chounard, alone, with a golden cross that he took with him, reached the summit with great difficulty. But the cross was never found.

The normal ascent leads through the south face (level of difficulty I, sections II) to the summit and takes about 4 hours from the Chamonna Linard , which can be reached from Lavin . Because of the very far-reaching panorama of the summit, this route is used quite often in summer, which in connection with the consistently brittle rock entails a considerable risk of falling rocks.

The free-standing, for miles around overriding mountain offers a correspondingly far-reaching views: In the East the Oetztal Alps can be seen right behind them including the 142 km distant Marmolada . In the southeast the Ortler massif and the Presanella spread out, in the south the Bernina Mountains, the Monte Disgrazia and the main Alpine ridge in front of it . In the southwest, when visibility is good, the Valais Alps ( Monte Rosa , Dom, Weißmies , Weißhorn ) can be seen up to 200 km away , to the north of it the Bernese and Glarus Alps up to Glärnisch , Alpstein , Rätikon and Lechquellen Mountains .
