Where is my mind? is a song by the Pixies that appeared on their debut album Surfer Rosa in 1988 .

Although the song was never released as a single, it is now one of the most famous of the band and has been covered many times and used in film soundtracks and advertising. Singer Black Francis wrote the surreal lyrics, inspired by diving in the Caribbean. Since the text was never included with the LP , there are different versions, especially for the indistinctly sung line When he told me east is west, trying to talk to, to me . This is reproduced differently in cover versions and also varies at concerts by the band.

Use in soundtracks

The song experienced a huge surge in popularity when it appeared in the credits of the film Fight Club . Other films that use the song include Gaz Bar Blues , Mr. Nobody , It's Kind of a Funny Story (version by Maxence Cyrin ), Big Ass Spider! Cover versions

The song was covered in German by Locas in Love and Wolke . There is also a Spanish and a Dutch version. Well-known cover versions come from Placebo , Nada Surf , Maxence Cyrin , James Blunt or The Vaccines . Black Francis covered his own song on his Frank Black Francis album . During live performances, u. a. Kings of Leon and Madsen the song. In 2015 the song was also played by Placebo as part of the recordings for the MTV Unplugged album.
