Company history

Wiberg was founded in February 1947 by Wilhelm Berger and Helene Berger as Wiberg KG in Stuhlfelden ( Oberpinzgau ). The company name "Wiberg" is an acronym from the first syllables of the name Wilhelm Berger. The founder's business idea was to offer sausage producers ready-made spice mixes with a constant taste quality.

In 1954 Wiberg moved to the city of Salzburg. In 1962 the company set up a branch for the EC area in neighboring Freilassing . In 1973, Wiberg began selling spices and spice mixtures for the catering industry in Austria. Since 1977 the packaging (binding, gathering and printing) of sausage casings has expanded the company's range. In the same year, the company built a new company building in Salzburg, relocated the parent company there and expanded it one year later, in 1978.

1981 company founder died Kommerzialrat Wilhelm Berger. His daughter, Helga Winkler-Berger, took over the company. In 1983/84 the 21 year old branch in Freilassing gave way to a completely new company building. In 1987 Wiberg took a leap on the American market and opened the Wiberg Corporation in Toronto, Canada , which was expanded in 1996 and moved to Oakville / Ontario. In 1994 Wiberg's quality management system was certified according to ISO 9001 . In 1997 the parent company in Salzburg was expanded into the company headquarters.

In 2001, Marcus Winkler, who joined the company in 1998, took over the management of the company in the third generation. In the same year branches were founded in Los Angeles and Barcelona . In 2005 construction began on the new production and logistics center in Freilassing, which was officially opened in 2008.

In 2010 Wiberg was certified according to ISO 22000 .
