occupation

How light tastes is a film drama by the director Maurus vom Scheidt from 2006. The literary film adaptation is based on the novel of the same name by the writer Friedrich Ani . In the main role , Leo Zirner plays the fourteen-year-old Lukas, who falls in love with a blind waitress.

action

The rather introverted Lukas lives in the Bavarian capital Munich. He grows up with the typical problems of a fourteen-year-old who hardly knows what to do with his parents. Even his grandfather, with whom he used to have close contact, no longer understands him properly and simply gives him money for his birthday out of disinterest. All of this annoys Luke; all the more he enjoys the celebration of his fourteenth birthday to the fullest.

Because he was looking forward to this event so much, he celebrates his special day for three full days in his hometown. During a visit to a restaurant, he met the seventeen-year-old, blind waitress Sonja, who, despite her limitations, masters her job very well. The only thing she has never seen is the sun or daylight. Lukas, who fell head over heels in love with her, decides to show her that you can taste the light that she has never seen before .

The blind Sonja teaches Lukas to pay attention to subtleties that get lost in the normal daily events of a sighted person. For example, paying attention to quiet noises or feeling things by touch and deriving the context in which these things occur and what they mean there. Luke realizes that this way of looking at his surroundings has so far escaped him. He begins to develop a sensitivity for his surroundings and to pay attention to things to which he previously paid no special attention.

As the story progresses, Lukas and Sonja find themselves in the faint glow of the setting sun on Munich's boulevard Maximilianstrasse , where the two of them "taste the light of the sun" together.
