Wiktor Paweł Skworc (born May 19, 1948 in Bielszowice , Silesian Voivodeship, Poland ) is Archbishop of Katowice .

Life

After graduating from high school in Ruda Śląska in 1966, Skworc studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Kraków . During his internship year, he worked in the Ruda Śląska coal mine. During his diaconate year , he looked after young Polish people in Dresden and Leipzig . On April 19, 1973, he received by the Bishop of Katowice , Herbert Bednorz , the ordination . From 1975 to 1980 he was the personal secretary of Bishop Herbert Bednorz. In 1992 he became Vicar General of Katowice Archbishop Damian Zimoń . In 1995 he received his PhD in humanities from the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw .

On 13 December 1997 it appointed Pope John Paul II. Bishop of Tarnów and donated him on 6 February 1998 in St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re and Jorge María Mejía . On January 25, 1998, he was introduced to his office in Tarnow Cathedral .

In the Polish Bishops' Conference , Skworc is chairman of the Council for Economic Affairs and chairman of the Commission for Missions. He was also chairman of the Committee on Relations between the Polish Bishops 'Conference and the German Bishops' Conference .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and on October 29, 2011 appointed him Archbishop of Katowice.
