The Wildenberg is 469.1  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Rothaargebirge . It is located near Wilnsdorf in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Located in the southern part of the Rothaargebirge and Siegerland in the municipality of Wilnsdorf south of its eponymous core town, southeast of the Wilnsdorf district of Wilden and north-northeast of the Burbach district of Gilsbach , Wildenberg belongs to the Kalteiche massif ( 579.3  m ). To the east the landscape of the mountain leads past the elevations of Stollenberg ( 467.2  m ) and Löhrsberg ( 561.6  m ) to the Kalteiche, to the southeast through the valleys of the Wildebach ( Wildenbach ) and its tributary Wiebelhäuser Bach past the Holzholzer Kopf ( 542.9  m ) for Donner grove ( 560.7  m ), to the south-southwest to the other side of the Wildebachtals and thereat of country Kroner Weiher located Walker Strand Berg ( 526  m ) and west to lie beyond this valley Bautenberg ( cottage Berg ; 512.9  m ). The Wildebach, which rises on the eastern Löhrsberg, flows from south to west around the Wildenberg, only to move away from the mountain in a north-west direction; The Wiebelhäuser Bach flows into this brook south of the Wildenberg.

The mountain is located in the Landeskroner Weiher landscape protection area , Wiebelhausen ( CDDA no. 322403; 1991; 8 km²).

Natural allocation

The Wildenberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder source area (333.0) to the natural area Kalteiche (with Haincher Höhe) (333.00) , whereby the northern Hellerbergland (331.30) in the northwest and the subunit Nordsiegerländer Bergland (331.0) the southern Siegener Bergland (331.04) in the northeast are connected as natural areas in the main unit Siegerland (331) and subunit Hellerbergland (331.3) .

Mountain height

The Wildenberg is 469.1  m high, but the height is also given as 468.7  m . About 15 m east of its summit is a trigonometric point at a height of 468.8  m . In topographical maps around the summit, additional height information can be found at 468.1 and 464.5  m .

Transport and mining

The federal autobahn 45 ( Sauerland line ) runs over the western flank of the Wildenberg , on which the small rest area Am Wildenberg is located in the direction of Wilnsdorf– Haiger / Burbach , a little west of it the state road  723 leads as a connecting road from Wilden to Gilsbach and a little northeast of the elevation Bundesstrasse 54 from Wilnsdorf towards Haiger. The elevation itself can be reached on forest trails and paths.

At the north-western foot of the mountain, the Landeskrone mine was in operation until 1917 ; Lead ore was mined .
