The Wildkarspitze is 3073  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Zillertal Alps in the Austrian state of Salzburg .

Location and surroundings

The Wildkarspitze rises in the municipality of Krimml in Pinzgau . It is the highest point of the Gerloskamm , a north-south ridge of the Reichenspitz group , which represents the eastern boundary of the Zillertal Alps. In the west of the mountain lies the Wildgerlostal , in the east the Krimmler Achental .

While the western flank of the Wildkarspitze has a rocky character, the mountain is heavily glaciated on the north and east sides . The Wildkarkees extends to the north , the Waldbergkarkees to the northeast and the Weißkarkees to the southeast . Neighboring mountains are the little pronounced Seekarspitzl (also Walderbergkarkopf , 2914  m ) in the northeast and the Hohe Schaflkopf ( 3057  m ) in the south.

Alpinism

The normal route to the Wildkarspitze leads from the southwestern Zittauer Hütte ( 2328  m ) pathless to the ridge between Wildkarspitze and Hohem Schaflkopf and then over this to the summit. This ascent requires climbing at difficulty level II (UIAA) . Another equally difficult ascent, accessible from the Drisslalm in Wildgerlostal or from Krimml, runs over the Waldbergkarkees, then over the Wildkarkees and finally over the northwest ridge to the summit. In winter, the mountain is climbed as a ski tour over the Wildkarkees.

The first ascent of the time as Wildkarkopf known mountain succeeded Karl Povinelli and Franz Hofer in 1,892th
