Wilfred Kibet Kigen

Wilfred Kibet Kigen (born February 23, 1975 ) is a Kenyan marathon runner .

In 2003 he finished fourth in the Route du Vin and second in the Boulogne-Billancourt half marathon . In 2004 he finished fifth in the Hamburg marathon and fourth in the Amsterdam marathon .

His breakthrough came the following year, when he first finished second behind Julio Rey in the Hamburg Marathon and then in a dramatic finale at the Frankfurt Marathon , in which he lost his three compatriots Jason Mbote , his cousin Wilson Kipkemboi Kigen and Charles Kibiwott by a few seconds hit, set a course record of 2:08:29. In 2006 he finished fourth in Hamburg and repeated his victory in Frankfurt.

In 2007, after finishing second in Hamburg, he was not only the first runner to succeed in the hat trick at the Frankfurt Marathon, he also improved his course record to 2:07:58.

After taking second place in the Hamburg Marathon 2008 and the Düsseldorf Marathon 2009, he won the sixth attempt in Hamburg in 2010.

Wilfred Kibet Kigen comes from Eldoret and in his childhood walked 20 km to school every day. His father was a farmer and died in a car accident in 1995. Kigen lives with his family in Ngong . Like his mentor Wilson Boit Kipketer, he is employed by the police.
