Wilfried Basse

Wilfried Basse (actually Wilhelm-Friedrich Heinrich Hermann Basse ; born August 17, 1899 in Hanover ; † June 6, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German documentary filmmaker and cameraman who was only rediscovered in the 1970s / 80s because of his attitude towards the regime the National Socialists, however, is controversial.

Life

Wilfried Basse was the son of the Hanoverian banker Wilhelm Basse and grandson of the banker and politician August Basse .

After graduating from high school in 1919, he began an apprenticeship in banking with his father in 1921, and later moved to Berlin to found "Basse Film GmbH".

Works

The best known is his documentary "Germany - between yesterday and today", made between 1932 and 1934, which had to be changed several times after censorship interventions; this film was shown again at the 1977 Berlinale .

Basse was one of the cameramen in Leni Riefenstahl's Olympic film .
