Wilhelm Basse

Wilhelm Basse (born June 9, 1863 in Hanover ; † April 24, 1923 there ) was a German merchant and banker. He founded the private Bassebank in the 19th century and was one of "the most important patrons of the Kestner Society ".

Wilhelm Basse was the son of the banker August Basse and in 1899 became the father of the later film director and film producer Wilfried Basse .

Career

Wilhelm Basse began his commercial training in Conrad Bühring's wholesaler , then moved to the Heinrich Narjes banking house . Subsequently, Basse worked in banks in both England and Berlin .

In 1890 Wilhelm Basse founded the Bassebank (also: Bankhaus Basse ), which from the beginning had the exiled Hanover royal house of the Guelphs among its customers.

Wilhelm Basse was a member of the German-Hanoverian Party and became a member of the board of the (former) Börsenverein , which as the bearer of the Hanoverian Stock Exchange had been expanded into a general trading association as early as 1845 and to which “all wholesalers, wine dealers, bankers, booksellers, freight forwarders and larger manufacturers of the city of Hanover, the suburbs and the village of Linden ”belonged.

In addition, Wilhelm Basse was active as a sponsor of the Heimatbund Lower Saxony .
