Wilhelm August Förstemann

Wilhelm August Förstemann (born October 29, 1791 in Nordhausen ; † June 28, 1836 in Danzig ) was a German mathematician and educator .

Life

Wilhelm August Förstemann was born in 1791 in Nordhausen as the son of Quatuorvir (municipal official) Konrad Wilhelm Förstemann (1742-1806). His brothers were Karl Wilhelm (1777-1845), pastor and superintendent in Nordhausen; Ernst Günther (1788–1859), high school professor , historian and city archivist in Nordhausen and Ferdinand Carl (1798–1873), professor at the secondary and trade school in Elberfeld .

After high school education and studies, Förstemann was given a position as an educator at Johann Peterhundiker's educational institute, the philanthropist in Vechelde . On June 30, 1817 Wilhelm August was appointed doctor of philosophy at the University of Halle . In the same year he became professor of mathematics at the grammar school in Gdansk . From 1831 until his death in 1836 Förstemann was director at the head of the Natural Research Society in Danzig .

His marriage to Dorothea Wilhelmine Jarke was Ernst Wilhelm Förstemann out (1822-1906), historian, archivist and librarian of the Royal Library in Dresden .
