Wilhelm Beuermann
Wilhelm Beuermann (born March 21, 1937 in Berlin ; † October 1, 2006 in Hanover ) was a German painter , graphic artist and poet . He lived and worked in Hanover and at times in Liguria and Sardinia .
Life
Beuermann studied graphics at the Werkkunstschule Hannover, deepened his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the Atelier J. Friedländer and at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin with Bachmann and Gonda. After a scholarship from the Institut Français in 1962, he worked as a freelance painter. Wilhelm Beuermann was a member of the German Association of Artists . From the 17th exhibition in Hanover in 1969 to the 38th exhibition in Berlin in 1990, he took part in six annual DKB exhibitions.
He lived and worked with the graphic artist and draftsman Rosemarie Würth - they married in 1963 - for several months from 1971 onwards in his studios, first in Liguria and later in Sardinia - until 2003.
Wilhelm Beuermann was a member of the Hanoverian artist group PlasMa . Exhibitions from 1980–1989 with Max Sauk , Rosemarie Würth , János Nádasdy , Ulrike Enders .
Wilhelm Beuermann's work was included in the " Lower Saxony artist database and estate archive ".
Works
Painting, printmaking and drawings
The times in the Mediterranean environment had a major impact on the mood and content of the following pictures. Wilhelm Beuermann was always fascinated by the deserted urban landscapes in the midday summer heat, in which the glistening walls of the houses are structured by hard shadows.
There are 5 creative periods in his work. Up until the early 1970s, paintings with rounded organic structures were created. The 1970s were characterized by ribbon motifs. At the end of the 1970s, ribbon motifs were mixed with architectural views, only to be replaced by them in the course of the following years. The 90s were shaped by the ship motif. At the end of the 1990s, Wilhelm Beuermann discovered stone formations for his new imagery and thus turned to the world of forms of nature. While the earlier pictures lived on contrasts of intense colors, gray-black-beige tones predominated in the later pictures. This principle increased - to an individual realism depicted on the canvas and also in his diaries, which were provided with many drawings and gouaches - until his later illness and death in 2006.
I find the starting point of my pictures in what is visible in my respective home and studio. Photos and sketches on site are documents of the place where they were found, of objects, constellations and moods, places, streets, indoors and in every form of landscape. With the beginning of the painting process in the color design on paper up to the canvas picture, the subject changes in more or less comprehensible steps. Reduction and addition alternate, placing shapes and colors more and more in the context of the pictorial scenario and transforming them into a sign that moves away from the model and pure copy. ... In his first year of study, Wilhelm Beuermann had modeled a 100 cm high sculpture out of plaster of paris. The painterly play with the ribbons was already indicated here. It was his wish that this depicted motif should one day decorate his grave. In 2007 the sculptor Jürgen Friede copied this sculpture in red granite. It stands at the grave of Wilhelm Beuermann in the Engesohde city cemetery in Hanover.
architectural art
Beuermann won several competitions for art in architecture in the public sector, for example the wall design for the facade of the sports hall of the Luther school in Hanover - Nordstadt in 1974. A painting made of shimmering blue, vertically arranged bands, which took up more than 50 m in length, spread out for the viewer on the side of Asternstrasse. In 2015 the facade had to be rebuilt and renovated. A memorial plaque with a restored architectural photograph shows and explains the original state of the wall painting.
In 1988 the mural of the post office building in Hanover- Laatzen , made from enamelled cassettes, was completed and in 1990 the mural “The Round Table” in the casino of the Heinrich-der-Löwe barracks in Braunschweig. This was followed by wall designs for a subway station in Cologne and for a light shaft for the stairwell at the Kunstverein Hannover.
