Wilhelm Bode (painter)

Wilhelm Bode (born March 12, 1830 in Hamburg , † July 27, 1893 in Düsseldorf ) was a German landscape painter .

Bode, who had initially completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer , went to Vienna in 1855 , where he trained as a landscape painter at the Academy of Fine Arts . He then lived in Munich for eight years , then in Düsseldorf until the end of his life. There he belonged to the artists' association Malkasten .

Bode mainly painted landscapes from Bavaria and Switzerland , but also from the Eifel and Westphalia as well as the Harz Mountains . They appeared in the 1860s to 1880s in particular at academic exhibitions in Dresden and Berlin .
