During this time in 1956 , 1958 and 1960 he celebrated winning the South German Championship three times. He was twice appointed to the German national B soccer team by national coach Sepp Herberger .

career

The home club of the youth soccer player Wilhelm "Willi" Dimmel was VfB Leimen from the Heidelberg soccer district, which belongs to the Badischer Fußballverband . The talented attacker - he was the top scorer - played with the blue-blacks in the 1st Amateur League North Baden and finished sixth with his teammates in the 1953/54 season. For the BFV he entered on September 6, 1953 in the competition of the amateur country cup in Schwetzingen in the game against South Baden (4: 2). In addition to the center forward from Leimen, Max Schwall from FV Daxlanden and Hans Kreische from DSC Heidelberg held the center stage. The achievements of the attacker from Leimen brought him into the sights of SV Waldhof and Karlsruher SC. He signed a contract in the fan-shaped city with Karlsruher SC for the round in 1954/55 and accepted the challenge of the Oberliga Süd.

On the fourth matchday, September 12, 1954, in the 3-0 away defeat of KSC at VfB Stuttgart, Dimmel made his debut next to right winger Oswald Traub and center forward Antoine Kohn as a right connector in the Oberliga Süd. Under coach Adolf Patek , the newcomer from the amateur camp could not assert itself against the athletic competition in the KSC offensive by Traub, Ernst Kunkel , Heinz Beck , Kohn, Hans Strittmatter and Herbert Dannenmeier . In the first two rounds - for the 1955/56 season, ex-national player Berni Termath had also come to the Wildpark - he had to put up with only eight appearances in the league team in Karlsruhe. In the 1956/57 season, the KSC took third place in the Oberliga Süd with the new coach Ludwig Janda , but increased his number of uses thanks to his versatile range of uses - he alternated in the storm, in the runner row and in defense to 17 league games and thus belonged to the regular cast. National coach Herberger noticed his talent on the defensive and subjected him to a detailed examination during a DFB course from February 18 to March 2, 1957 in Duisburg. This resulted in his nomination on March 27, 1957 in Essen for the international match of the B national team against the Netherlands.

When the blue and whites from Baden were able to win the championship in the south in the 1957/58 season, Dimmel mostly formed the KSC defender pair with Walter Bauis . In the shortened final round of the German championship - the reason was the soccer world championship in Sweden in 1958 - he was in all three games against Tennis Borussia Berlin (1: 0), Eintracht Braunschweig (2: 1) and against FC Schalke 04 (0: 3 ) in action. In the early course of the first half of the 1958/59 season, the defender of the KSC came on October 22, 1958 for his second assignment in the B-Elf. In the 1-0 success in the home game park stadium against Austria, he was substituted on for defender colleague Hans Barwenzik . This season he completed all 30 league games for the team of outgoing coach Janda. On November 19, 1958 he was in a contract player selection from North Baden, which was able to prevail in Sofia against the B national team of Bulgaria with 4-2 goals. KSC teammates were Heinz Ruppenstein and Bernhard Termath.

With the new trainer Edi Frühwirth , the team from Baden celebrated winning the title in the Oberliga Süd in 1959/60. Rudi Fischer (goalkeeper), Dimmel and Gustav Witlatschil (defender), as well as the runner row with Heinz Ruppenstein , Bernhard Termath and Horst Szymaniak formed the outstanding KSC defense. In the final round of the German championship, the KSC achieved a 3: 3 draw in Hamburg and brought Hamburger SV a 4: 3 defeat in Karlsruhe on June 11, 1960 - Dimmel had the task of the fast HSV left winger Gert Dörfel to put on the chain - but the North German champions prevailed with 9: 3 points ahead of Karlsruhe with 7: 5 points and moved into the final against 1. FC Köln. On July 30, 1960, the Karlsruhe team prevailed in the final of the South German Cup in Mannheim with 2-1 goals against Eintracht Frankfurt. Dimmel had to do with the Eintracht left winger Lothar Schämer . In the semi-finals of the DFB Cup , the blue-whites prevailed against FK Pirmasens with 2-0 goals in their home stadium and thus moved into the final on October 5 in Düsseldorf against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The KSC had to contest the final without regular goalkeeper Manfred Paul and center forward Reinhold Wischnowsky . Dimmel defended together with Gustav Witlatschil. The duel between the two national players Albert Brülls (BMG) against Horst Szymaniak (KSC) had a decisive effect . Brülls was in great form and forced the decision in the 60th minute with his goal to 3-2 for Mönchengladbach.

In the 1960/61 season, the man from Leimen acted mainly with Max Schwall and in 1961/62 with Dieter Klaußner as a partner in defense. With his use on April 15, 1962 in the 3: 3 draw at 1860 Munich, "Willi" Dimmel ended his career in the Oberliga Süd. He returned to Leimen and worked in later years as a coach in the North Baden amateur area. Among other things, he was in charge of VfB Wiesloch from 1971 to 1973. Dimmel is an honorary member of his home club VfB Leimen and the Karlsruher SC.
