Wilhelm Pleickart Baron Marschall von Bieberstein (born May 9, 1890 in Berlin , † January 31, 1935 in Stettin ) was a German aviator and Nazi functionary .

Life

Marschall von Bieberstein was a son of the Prussian Minister of State Adolf Marschall von Bieberstein (1842-1912) and Marie-Luise von Gemmingen (1862-1949). In 1927 he married Karola Freiin von Holzing-Berstett and was thus brother-in-law of Marie Luise Kaschnitz . The marriage had three children.

Youth and wartime

He was a baron and so-called Baden landlord . Marschall von Bieberstein first attended the Berthold-Gymnasium in Freiburg from 1903 to 1906 , and then attended the Dom-Gymnasium in Merseburg until 1909 , where he graduated from high school. He was then employed as an officer candidate and flag junior in the 2nd Badische Dragoon Regiment No. 21 in Bruchsal, where he received his patent as a lieutenant in 1910. At the beginning of the First World War in 1914, he took the 2nd Squadron into the fighting in the west, and later also on the fronts in the east and in the Balkans. At times he was an orderly officer in the 28th Cavalry Brigade . As early as 1915 he was promoted to first lieutenant, but then joined the air force . Here he served in Fliegerabteilung 68 , in the so-called carrier pigeon department Ostend and in bomb squadron 1 of the Supreme Army Command . In total, he completed over 300 enemy flights under the war name of Emir and became a squadron leader in 1917.

After the First World War and National Socialism

After the end of the war he initially worked as a commercial pilot for Deutsche Luft-Reederei and, among other things, was a crew member on the transfer flight on March 19, 1919, one of the first three German commercial aircraft of the AEG GV type that had been sold to Sweden. Later that year he took part in the fighting in the Baltic States, among other things as commander of the aviation associations of the Army von der Goltz-Avaloff and in 1921 in the fighting of the Freikorps in Upper Silesia . Marshal von Bieberstein joined the NSDAP as early as 1923 and took part in the Hitler putsch in Munich and in 1924 became the standard leader of the SA . In 1925 he became the leader of the Schlageter Memorial Association in Freiburg. He became better known as an aviator and participant in Sven Hedin's Sino-Swedish expedition from 1928 to 1929 to Sinkiang . He then became leader of the Baden SA until 1931 and from 1930 to 1933 he was a member of the Baden state parliament (for the NSDAP ). After the seizure of power, Marschall von Bieberstein became leader of the sub-group of the DLV Berlin , a predecessor of the NSFK . The following year he was deputy leader of the Fliegerlandesgruppe X Brandenburg-Grenzmark of the German Air Sports Association and, as captain, head of the airport in Königsberg .

He died in an airplane accident in Stettin in 1935 and was buried with a state funeral in the family grave of Marshal von Bieberstein in Neuershausen .

Honor

In addition to the state funeral, Marschall von Bieberstein was honored by naming a Junkers Ju 52 / 3m from Lufthansa with the D-ATAK label. This plane crashed near Hanover in 1936 due to icing.
