Wilhelm Hulderich Waldschmidt

Wilhelm Hulderich Waldschmidt (also Wilhelm Ulrich Waldschmidt , born January 12, 1669 in Gießen ; † January 12, 1731 in Kiel ) was a Hessian physician, personal physician to the Duke of Holstein and professor of anatomy and botany at the University of Kiel .

Life

Wilhelm Hulderich Waldschmidt was a son of the physician Johann Jakob Waldschmidt and studied medicine and natural sciences at the universities of Marburg, Giessen and Zurich, among others. In 1690 he received his doctorate and after study trips through the Netherlands and England he became a doctor of the Hessian troops. In 1691 he accepted the call as a full professor of anatomy and botany at the University of Kiel . From 1693 he taught experimental physics and from 1723 forensic medicine. In 1730 he was prorector of the University of Kiel.

On June 25, 1698, Wilhelm Hulderich Waldschmidt , nicknamed Diocles I, was accepted as a member ( matriculation number 234 ) in the Leopoldina .

Waldschmidt was married to Margaretha Dorothea Major , the daughter of the polymath Johann Daniel Major .
