Wilhelm Nultsch

Wilhelm Nultsch (born March 20, 1927 in Magdeburg ; † May 23, 2011 ) was a German botanist .

Life

Wilhelm Nultsch went to school in Quedlinburg until 1944 , before he was drafted for the final years of the war . From 1946 to 1951 he studied chemistry, biology , philosophy and education at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1953 he was at John Buder in the field of plant physiology Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate and habilitation in Halle in 1959 . From 1960 to 1966 Nultsch was employed at the Botanical Institute of the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen as a lecturer under Erwin Bünning . In 1966 he was appointed to the professorship for botany at the Philipps University in Marburg . From 1966 to 1970 he was director of the Botanical Institute and from 1966 to 1975 of the Botanical Garden . From 1966 until his retirement in 1995, Nultsch held the position of full professor in Marburg. For four years (1994–1998) he was director of the Biological Institute Helgoland , Hamburg headquarters.

From 1985 to 1994 he was President of the German Botanical Society . In addition, Nultsch was President of the European Society for Photobiology from 1991 to 1993 . He died at the age of 84.

research

Nultsch did research in the fields of plant physiology , photobiology and marine botany . He wrote about 150 original publications in various international journals.

He is also the author of various books, including the microscopic-botanical internship and general botany , which was published in 1964 as the very first textbook in paperback format.
