Wilhelm Josef Valentin Rautenstrauch (born December 22, 1862 in Trier ; † May 4, 1947 there ) was a German politician ( DDP , DStP, later LP , FDP ).

Life and work

Wilhelm Rautenstrauch took over the trading company for leather hides founded by his grandfather. He later co-founded a rolling mill in Trier-Kürenz . From 1914 to 1933, he was Vice President of the Trier Chamber of Commerce and Industry . He also worked as a patron of the arts and sports sponsor in the Trier region.

Political party

During the Weimar Republic , Rautenstrauch was a member of the DDP (1930–1933: DStP). After the Second World War he was one of the co-founders of the Liberal Party (LP) in the Trier administrative district and in Rhineland-Palatinate . After the LP and the Social People's Federation (SV) had merged to form the FDP , he was elected the first state chairman of the FDP Rhineland-Palatinate on April 20, 1947 at the party congress in Bad Kreuznach .

Rautenstrauch was a council member of the city ​​of Trier from 1895 to 1933 and 1946/47 . He was a member of the National Advisory Assembly in 1946/47. Here he was the oldest member of the Parliament's age group.
