Wilhelm Riedel (born September 16,  1832 in Antoniwald (now Antonínov) near Josefsthal , Kingdom of Bohemia ; † June 12, 1876 in Kundratitz (now Kundratice) near Leitmeritz , Kingdom of Bohemia) was a Bohemian landscape and animal painter from the Düsseldorf School and School from Barbizon .

Riedel was the son of Antoniwalder glassworks master and glassworks owner Franz Xaver Riedel (1786–1844) from his marriage to Josefina Weber (1808–1882). His brother-in-law and cousin was the industrialist Josef Riedel (1816–1894). From 1852 he studied with Max Haushofer at the Prague Art Academy . From 1856 to 1860 he then took private lessons with Andreas Achenbach in Düsseldorf . As a student he wandered through Bohemia, especially the Giant Mountains . In 1861/62 and 1868/69 he traveled to Italy (1861 Rome) and 1864–1868 France (Paris and Brittany), where he was influenced by the Barbizon School, particularly the paintings of Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot and Charles-François Daubigny . From 1869 or 1870 he lived in Prague .

With tuberculosis , he went to the health spas of Karlsbad , Eichwald and Teplitz accompanied by his mother . He died of pyemia  in Kundratitz at the age of 43 . There he was buried in the cemetery on June 14, 1876.

Riedel created landscapes and animals in oils, in watercolors and drawings. From 1855 he was represented at exhibitions in Prague and Brno .
