Location of Wilhelminadorp in the municipality of Goes |
Wilhelminadorp ( Zeeland 't Wulleminadurp ) is a small village in the municipality of the city Goes in the Dutch province of Zeeland . The village has 720 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
Wilhelminadorp was established in 1812 by the damming of the Wilhelminapolders . The polder was originally called Lodewijkspolder , named after Louis Napoléon Bonaparte ( Dutch: Lodewijk Napoleon ), who, as King of Holland , decided in 1809 to pold the area. In 1815 the polder got its current name after Wilhelmine von Prussia , the wife of the Dutch King Wilhelm I. A special feature of this polder is that only one farm was established here, the " Koninklijke Maatschap de Wilhelminapolder " (" Royal Society Wilhelminapolder ") . This farm still exists and was one of the largest farms in the Netherlands. The farm extends over an area of 1700 ha (= 17 km² ), of which around 1300 ha (= 13 km²) is arable land .
Wilhelminadorp is located on the Goes canal to the Oosterschelde . Wilhelminadorp also includes Goese Sas , which lies at the mouth of this canal, and Roodewijk , both settlements in the rural outskirts of the village. The Dutch Reformed Church (" Hervormde Kerk ") in the village was built to a design by the Dutch architect Isaäc Warnsinck .
At Wilhelminadorp there is the Katseveer restaurant , which received a Michelin star in 2005 .
